A little while ago, this image was floating around on Facebook with the caption "Gender Equality" and I feel like this needs to be addressed:

CLEARLY THIS IS NOT EQUALITY!
I also want to make a note that I couldn't find this image when I typed in "equality" or "gender equality" and it only came up when I searched "fake gender equality"
By definition, gender equality simply means that regardless of gender, everyone should receive the same treatment, resources, and not be discriminated against. Period. And that is what I, as a feminist, stand for. Where above are both men and women in this picture seen getting the same reaction for the same reasons? You don’t.
*I'm also going to go ahead and point out that this image is very binary and therefore excludes a bunch of people, but I guess you can't understand that if you think that this image is an accurate representation*
I won’t go through all of them but let’s talk about a few of these.
If you put your hands on another human being and it’s not in self defense, you are a coward. There’s no reason for it, and you have no right to do it.
Getting an unexpected kiss (from someone who isn’t a stranger) depends on how YOU feel about it. No one else gets to dictate your response to anything.
How about you not touch people's (whether you know them or not) without their consent. Why? Because it's sexual assault, that's why.
I personally don't know any women who say "help me!" at work. I'm an event planner and people seem to think that's incredibly glamorous but the fact of the matter is that we lift and move a lot of heavy shit. I once went to move a pop up tent off of a gold cart and the guy driving it said, "you can't lift that...unless you're strong." Needless to say, I kindly put him in his place and reminded him that it's part of what we do.
REAL feminists fight for gender equality. That means leveling the playing the field for any gender where they are disadvantaged. The problem is that so many people misuse the term and that a lot of people are questioning what it means or believing false definitions. Feminism was never meant to put one group over the other but people have distorted it to seem that way. Instead of believing everything that you read on the internet, do some research, talk to people, educate yourself and others.
